Known for the beautiful lakes, Prior Lake is on the southwest edge of the Twin Cities. Business growth is influenced by three hundred acres of vacant commercial, business park, and industrial land to develop, and the city’s 2015 population estimate was 25,282 compared to 16,000 in 2000 and 22,300 in 2010.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) is located in Prior Lake as well as Scott County’s largest employer, Mystic Lake. They offer an array of opportunities to the public including restaurants, Playworks, Dakotah! Fitness, Dakotah! Ice Center, two casinos and a hotel.

The city's housing stock offers great diversity for individuals and families of all ages. Prior Lake's transportation system includes major roadways including Hwy. 13, County Rd. 42, County Rd. 21 and numerous others that access the entire metropolitan area. Prior Lake provides transit from within the community to other municipalities and to downtown Minneapolis by way of the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA).

Exclusive to Prior Lake, the city offers low-cost office space and support services for small businesses. Technology Village provides clients with an affordable and customized lease, furnished offices, development assistance, guidance from experienced business professionals, shared conference rooms and office equipment, networking opportunities with other entrepreneurs and community organizations, education programs, and access to local lenders interested in working with start-up businesses.

NextStage for Entrepreneurs


NextStage for Entrepreneurs provides one-on-one consulting, small group learning, and access to loan capital for businesses and entrepreneurs throughout Scott County.  This program is provided free of charge to Scott County residents and businesses and is closely integrated with other local programs aimed at assisting Scott County entrepreneurs and businesses.
