Overview of rental housing subsidy programs (The Big 3) - Public Housing, Project Based Section 8, Section 8 Housing Choice

Public Housing 

 

Public Housing provides decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly and persons with disabilities. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers Federal aid to local housing agencies (HAs) to manage the housing for low-income residents at rents they can afford.

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher - The Waiting List is currently CLOSED.

 

The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a type of Federal assistance provided by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) dedicated to sponsoring subsidized housing for low-income families and individuals. It is more commonly known as Section 8, the reference to the portion of the U.S. Housing Act in which the program is authorized.  Prospective LANDLORDS, click here, for more information.  A complete packet can be obtained by calling the CDA office.

Homebuyers Club - Classes are Quarterly

 

The Scott County CDA Homebuyers Club introduces the tools to home ownership. This 16 hour course includes education on budgeting;understanding credit; goal setting; shopping for a realtor, loan officer, and home inspector; choosing a mortgage; predatory lending; home maintenance; and much more. Courses are offered quarterly and are open to all. Homebuyers Club graduates may be eligible for a down payment assistance grant for a home located in Scott County.  For more information, class dates, and registration materials, click here.
